A man has been taken into custody by Tasmania Police following an aggravated carjacking incident on Main Road, Moonah, earlier this evening, Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The swift police response led to an arrest approximately an hour and twenty minutes after the initial report.
According to a statement released by Tasmania Police, the incident unfolded about 6:25 pm when a man was returning to his vehicle. He was allegedly threatened by another man, who was believed to be armed with a knife. The alleged offender then stole the victim’s silver Toyota Camry, driving away from the scene in the direction of Creek Road, Moonah.
Tasmania Police officers responded rapidly to the report. They successfully deployed road spikes to intercept the stolen vehicle, which subsequently came to a stop in Pierce Street, Moonah. The driver of the Camry then fled the scene on foot.
Following a search of the immediate area, police located the alleged offender. He was taken into custody around 7:45 pm.
